SUITCASE - KEB' MO' | ERA UMA VEZ UMA MÚSICA

Olá pessoal!

Infelizmente poucos no Brasil conhecem o bluesman americano Keb' Mo'.

Hello guys! Unfortunetely, very few people in Brazil know the American bluesman Keb 'Mo'. Keb 'Mo' is the nickname of singer and guitarist Kevin Moore whose lyrics deals with very current themes of our day to day lives. For this blog post I picked the lyrics of his song Suitcase and turned it into a dialogue between him and a friend. All of his turns in the dialogue are from the lyrics of the song with minor changes to make more sense in the context. Read and listen to the song or listen to music, then read...Your call!

George Hello Kevin! What is this suitcase for? Are you travelling?
Kevin
No! Actually I'm not. But I've got this suitcase and... I take it everywhere I go.
George
So if you are not travelling what is this bag for then?
Kevin
It's just a big old bag of trouble.
George
What do you mean?
Kevin
Simple! Trouble is all I know.
George
C'mon Keb! You seem to be very upset. Tell me what happened.
Kevin
Ok. Sit down then. I'll tell you everything. So, I met a girl, fell in love and our love was true...
George
Oh! Now it makes sense...
Kevin
Whoa, our love was true...
George
Let me guess...She was married!?
Kevin
Well... no... I found out, she had a big old suitcase too.
George
So what did you do?
Kevin
So we put our bags together, made a home for two.
George
I think I can see where this is going.
Kevin
Then along came the children, gave 'em all a little suitcase too.
George
What happened then Keb? Tell me all about it. Put it out of your chest. It will make you feel better.
Kevin
Ok, so listen... the house got too small, the bags got too big. We were holdin' on to everything, whatever said or did. When I complained about the salt, in her black eyed peas. Then she put her hand on her hip and she told me to leave.
George
Owa! And that's what you did, right?
Kevin
Yes! I take my suitcase and get on out that door... And she told me: “You're gonna hear from my lawyer, I can't take it no more.”
George
But you didn't do anything?
Kevin
I did, it was rally embarrassing... I had to get down on my knees, beg her to let me stay.
George
What?
Kevin
Yes! You heard it right. I had to get down on my knees and beg her to let me stay. I said: “Baby we got a whole lot of baggage, Let's call somebody and have 'em haul it away.”
George
And now keb?
Kevin
She didn't say anything yet.
George
Ok Keb...let's go somewhere and drink something. But don't worry my friend. Everything will turn out right. Just wait and you'll see.

RUDE QUESTIONS | C2 LEVEL TEXT EXAMPLE

Why is it rude and socially unacceptable to ask certain questions? The Independent  -  Christine Manby Picture the scene. You’re at a party. You know no one but the host and they’ve had to rush to the kitchen to rescue some smoking vol-au-vents from the oven. You spot a friendly looking fellow guest, also on their own, and sidle over to make their acquaintance by the buffet table. You swap names. You compare notes on your respective journeys to the venue. You talk about the weather. Hasn’t it been strange this year? So far so good. Now what? The host passes by with those vol-au-vents. You grab one and shove it in your mouth. And before you’ve entirely finished eating it you come out with the line , “So, what do you do?” If this were the 1970s, the needle would skitter across the vinyl on the record player, bringing the music to an abrupt and ugly end. As it is, the entire room falls silent as everyone turns to stare. It’s not that your mouth is still full of vol-au-v
